If you see the error code 0x80070643 on your computer, you are not alone. We explain what you can do if the error is displayed to you below.
The error number 0x80070643 says little about the specific problem. Usually, however, there is another text note about what kind of error occurred during Windows Update, for example. In January 2024, the error “Windows Recovery Environment servicing failed. (CBS_E_INSUFFICIENT_DISK_SPACE)”.
It is therefore an error that occurs when updating the Windows rescue environment WindowsRE. The partition for this is simply too small. Microsoft itself offers instructions on how to adjust the Windows score sizes. You can find the Windows instructions here. Microsoft writes in the instructions that you should enlarge the partition by 250 MB. In general, however, a size of about 1 GB seems to make sense.
However, Microsoft’s own instructions are rather unwieldy. It’s a good idea to make these changes using a partitioning tool. For example, the MiniTool Partition Wizard is free and easy to use.
In the meantime, Microsoft has published more tips to help you correct the error 0x80070643 after installing Windows Updates. Alternatively, you can try following the steps with an admin account. It may be sufficient to start a Windows update with the administrator account. There may also be a connection with the TPM module. Another option would be to install a current Windows ISO file, for example from a boot stick. But before that, you should back up your files as a precaution. It may help not to start the “setup.exe” file directly, but to use the “setupprp.exe” file in the “sources” folder.
