You are looking for a secure messaging application and respectful of privacy to talk with friends or colleagues? This guide could be exactly what you are looking for. I have compiled for you a list of five of the best end-to-end encrypted chat applications for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Nowadays, there are so many companies involved in the collection of personal data that it is difficult to know who to trust. But fortunately for us, some are striving to do the opposite by offering users applications or services that are 100% secure and respectful of privacy. And the applications that I propose in this article are part of it. They all allow you to exchange messages for free with whoever you want with the bonus of end – to – end encryption.
Signal
Signal is one of the most popular encrypted email apps. The application is available on the computer, Android and iPhone. It allows to discuss freely with whoever you want anywhere in the world and without extra cost. You can send text, audio or video messages and even use them as the default SMS application. And of course, Signal protects your communications with an end-to-end encryption method.
Telegram
Telegram is another very popular option for private conversations. This encrypted email mobile application offers almost the same functionality as Signal. This includes end-to-end encryption, group chats (up to 200,000 members), voice calls, and more. It even has an option to send self-destructing messages. For encryption to work, both people who want to converse need to download the Telegram app. The application is completely free, without ads or integrated purchase and is available on iPhone / iPad, Android, Windows, Linux, and macOS.
Wire
Wire is another end-to-end encrypted email app that was designed by Skype co-founder Janus Friis. Only you and the recipient can read the exchanged messages. Thanks to it, you will be able to make calls (up to 10 people), chat with one person or several people (up to 128 participants) or share photos, videos, files and even your location secure of course. The application is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.
WhatsApp is probably the most popular email service in the world. It is also encrypted end-to-end. Some of its features include group chats, voice calls, enhanced file sharing, and more. It also includes deleting the message even after it is sent. WhatsApp is the property of Facebook and the privacy policy of Facebook leaves something to be desired. So, WhatsApp may not be the best option if you want seamless security.
Wickr Me
Wickr Me is presented as the “Top-Secret Messenger” application, designed for personal and professional use. Endowed with an end-to-end encryption system and the promise of never collecting your data, Wickr seems to be the perfect app to discuss safely. However, you will have to convince your friends or colleagues … because for the encryption to work, both people must have the application. Wickr is freely downloadable for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and Linux.

I would not say that telegram and whatsapp are among the most secure messengers. I would add here Utopia, in my opinion this is the safest messenger at the moment.
Thanks so much cody, i have just update the article and include utopia in the list.
